Whoopi Goldberg ‘lucky to be alive’ after pneumonia

WHOOPI GOLDBERG says she feels ‘lucky to be alive’ after coming down with pneumonia.

The Ghost star (pictured) developed the infection in both lungs earlier this year, then contracted the life-threatening disease sepsis.

During a month-long hospital stay doctors told her there was a 30 per cent chance she would not survive.

‘I’m happy and grateful to be alive,’ she told People magazine. Goldberg, who is co-host of US TV show The View, has ‘cut down’ her work to ‘rest and recover’.

Before falling ill the 63-year-old said she did not think pneumonia was so serious and wants her story to be ‘a cautionary tale’.

‘You have to take the time to take care of yourself,’ she added.
