A HOSPITAL visitor has accused a sandwich company of ‘ripping off the NHS’ after ordering an egg salad sandwich — with hardly any egg in it.
Carl Simpson, 48, was visiting his wife Maria at Hull Royal Infirmary when she ordered the sandwich through the hospital’s catering team.
But, when she pulled apart the pieces of bread, she found it was filled with just six slices of egg and barely any lettuce and tomato.
Mr Simpson posted a picture of it online, saying Tiffin Sandwiches was ‘ripping off the NHS’.
Although Maria got it free, the price was £3 in the hospital shop.
He said his wife nearly died from organ failure in 2015 and rarely eats solid food, so she was upset by the find.
Tiffin Sandwiches apologised and invited Mr Simpson to tour its factory.
It said the rare defect was caused by a glitch in its production method.
