A HORSE had to be winched from a swimming pool on New Year’s Eve after she became too distressed to climb out.
The young mare is thought to have wandered in the night and fallen into the pool in Maidstone, Kent. The homeowner called the RSPCA and fire and rescue services helped the animal out.
The charity’s Rosie Russon said: ‘She was clearly very cold and in danger of developing hypothermia.’ However she was ‘very lucky’ to have only minor injuries to her legs.
The mare, nicknamed Ellie after swimming champ Ellie Simmonds, has an unregistered microchip so is being cared for until her owner is found. ‘If no one comes forward we’ll start the process of finding her a home,’ said Ms Russon.
