ANGELA MERKEL said yesterday she was pleased Theresa May had made progress on Brexit — and called for Britain and the EU to stay as closely linked as possible.
The German chancellor said the other 27 nations in the bloc would reply with one voice to the proposals put forward by the government for the future relationship.
‘We have made progress. It is a good thing we have a proposal on the table,’ she said as she joined the prime minister at a London summit to discuss links with Balkan countries.
Mrs May seemed nervous as she told Mrs Merkel not to answer UK reporters, adding: ‘She will take questions from her own press in a minute.’
