AN UBER driver has been jailed for life after admitting killing six people between picking up fares.
Jason Dalton was due to face a murder trial in the US for the gun spree around Kalamazoo, Michigan three years ago, but changed his plea to guilty at the last minute.
The 48-year-old admitted shooting eight people — two of whom survived — over a few hours. After his arrest, police said he told them a ‘devil figure’ on Uber’s app was controlling him that day.
Four women were killed in the car park of a restaurant, and a father and his 17-year-old son were shot dead at a truck dealership. A 14-year-old girl and an eighth victim were shot and lived. A gun shop owner said Dalton had laughed and joked with him hours before the rampage.
The father-of-two had no previous record and his motive is unknown. Prosecutor Jeff Getting said it is a question ‘that haunts us’.
