A FATHER sat in court yesterday to hear his wife admit to killing their twin toddlers in their beds.
Samantha Ford pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility of 23-month-old twins Jake and Chloe Ford, who were found dead in the early hours of December 27.
Dressed in a white blouse and black blazer, 38-year-old Ford appeared in the dock yesterday for a 15-minute hearing at the Old Bailey.
She spoke only to confirm her identity and give her manslaughter plea. She denies murder.
Her husband and the twins’ father Steven Ford attended the hearing along with seven other people.
The case was adjourned for prosecutors to decide on whether to accept Ford’s manslaughter plea or proceed to trying her for murder.
Prosecutor Edward Brown QC said the Crown Prosecution Service had recently received a psychiatric report on Ford.
He told the court: ‘We, the prosecution, are meeting tomorrow to discuss the contents and the background of this case.’
A decision will be communicated to the court by June 5, he added.
Ford was involved in a car collision with a lorry at 2.50am on December 27 in the A299 Thanet Way in Kent. When emergency services reached her, she told them to check her home in Margate because her babies were there.
Police and paramedics found the toddlers dead when they arrived at the address in Castle Drive at 3.35am. Pathologists believe they had died the day before.
After the killings, Mr Ford tweeted: ‘Daddy’s twins xxx my beautiful babies. I love you.’
In a later tweet, he said: ‘I want the world to see my beautiful babies. Jake and Chloe forever xxx.’ The case was adjourned with a provisional trial date at Maidstone crown court on June 24. Ford was remanded in custody.
