Trends: Period pain? Give CBD oil a try

Hard to stomach: CBD oil is anti-inflammatory and could help with period pain PICTURE: TOPTEN22PHOTO

CAN cannabidiol (CBD) cure period pain? Now you can find out as CBD brand Graces London has paired with organic tampon subscription service OHNE on an ‘anti-teardrops oil’ to target period pangs.

The oil is the first period-specific CBD oil available in the UK and contains other natural organic essential oils alongside the green stuff — we’re talking hemp seed extract, lemongrass and lavender oil, among others, which the brand says work in conjunction with CBD to provide more effective pain relief.

CBD is a legal and non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. However, there have been no clinical trials on its effectiveness when it comes to period pain.

That said, CBD has been proven to be effective at targeting inflammation and there is plentiful testimony as to its efficacy as a pain reliever when used topically (you can buy it in Boots as a muscle balm, for instance).

So what do you do with the anti-teardops oil? Don’t ingest it (lemongrass oil doesn’t taste so good). Instead, the Graces London team recommends either rubbing two to three drops directly on to your belly or lower back — wherever you feel period pain — or adding a few drops to a bubble bath.
