Tree-mendous rescuers save a glider pilot

Dangling: The glider stuck in the trees

A GLIDER pilot is winched out of his cockpit after getting stuck up a tree almost 100ft above the ground.

His aircraft had got caught up in the branches of a tree, leaving the glider — and its pilot — dangling nose down for more than four hours.

A coastguard helicopter lowered a rescuer who had to battle his way through the branches to the pilot.

The man, who was uninjured, was then lifted to safety in Chanctonbury Ring, near Steyning, in the South Downs in West Sussex on Saturday.
