THIS bedraggled squirrel is lucky to be alive — after getting himself stuck in a toilet bowl.
The fluffy-tailed critter got into difficulties after he managed to find himself wedged inside the far-from-sparkling toilet of a student house.
They reckon the nut-lover might have climbed in through the roof, then slipped and fallen through a hole in the ceiling into the bowl.
RSPCA animal collection officer Kirstie Gillard was called to the house in Southwark after the worried students found the drenched rodent at the bottom of the bowl.
Ms Gillard said it was ‘certainly one of the most unusual’ incidents she had attended.
‘I did rescue a bat stuck in the plughole of a sink last year, but I think this one takes the crown,’ she said.
Describing the rescue, which she carried out with a mop, she said: ‘Fortunately the squirrel wasn’t injured at all and I could release him back into the wild where he belongs.
‘I think he must have come into this house through the roof and slipped into the toilet.’
Ms Gillard couldn’t resist a pun, adding: ‘I’m sure it’s one the squirrel “walnut” forget in a hurry.’
The ‘plucky’ little guy assisted in his own rescue by tightly gripping on to the mop handle as he was lifted out of the toilet and, after being dried off and assessed for injuries, he was released.
