NETFLIX yesterday unveiled the little-known actress who has landed the coveted role of Lady Diana Spencer in The Crown.
Emma Corrin, whose most high-profile part to date was a guest spot in one episode of ITV drama Grantchester, said she will ‘strive to do justice’ to the late princess.
The actress, who trained at Cambridge University, has two movie credits on IMDb — in the upcoming drama Misbehaviour and in a 2018 short called Alex’s Dream. Her theatre work includes Shakespeare and The House Of Bernarda Alba.
Emma’s casting was confirmed on the official Twitter account of The Crown, in which Olivia Colman is taking over as the Queen. Diana’s debut will be in the fourth series of Peter Morgan’s drama, which starts filming later this year.
‘I have been glued to the show and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal,’ said Emma. ‘Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world was profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice.’
Diana died in a car crash in 1997.
