ROMANTIC Blake Martin left nothing to chance when planning to pop the question to his girlfriend — only for a cyclist to photobomb the memorable moment.
The 25-year-old chose to ask Shannon Keene, 24, to marry him on a scenic wooden bridge — and hired a photographer friend to catch the perfect moment on camera. But as he dropped to one knee an oblivious cyclist whizzed between them.
‘I had planned the proposal for three months,’ said chemical engineering PhD student Blake. ‘I was extremely nervous. But as I got down on one knee this orange blur zipped by and screamed, “Sorry”, then carried on. It was nuts.’
Law student Shannon added: ‘We were on this bridge when Blake asked me to look out over the creek for a photo. When I turned around he was on one knee. He started saying, “I love you so much. I want to spend my life with you. Will you marry me?” At that exact moment this man flies by on a bike.’
But the couple say it made the moment, captured by Christine Calacsan in Cherokee Park, Louisville, Kentucky, US, even more memorable.
‘When we saw (the photo) we both cracked up. It was a good reminder you shouldn’t take things too seriously,’ said Shannon. Blake added: ‘It made the proposal so special: unique.’
The couple, who met at university, plan to wed in 2020.
