A FARMER has got so fed up with complaints about his livestock he has posted a sign telling townies: ‘Animals smell bad and have sex outdoors.’

Stephen Nolan, 48, put up the notice in exasperation after ‘years’ of gripes about his horses, chickens and geese.

He said: ‘I find it baffling that people choose to live in the country and expect there not to be animals.

‘When we got the complaints we put the sign up just to say if you don’t like farms then don’t move next to one.’

Laneside Farm near Chorley, Lancashire, has been in the family since Mr Nolan’s grandfather bought it in the 1930s. The notice has attracted a lot of attention from locals who shared it on social media calling it ‘brilliant’ and ‘hilarious’.

Mr Nolan said he had received complaints about noise from his chickens and geese walking down the farm lane.

With his wife Anne, 46, he also keeps pigs and Shire horses but said objectors blocked his plans for bigger stables. ‘We are trying to do our best for endangered horses,’ he said.
