Teen’s five-hour op after hairdresser finds tumour

A TEENAGE girl has had surgery after a hairdresser spotted a tumour.

Chloe Wickham was having her locks restyled at home when Karen Gammon found an egg-shaped lump.

The mobile crimper advised the 17-year-old and mum Julie (both pictured) to get it checked out.

Doctors said it was just an abnormal bone but a later scan revealed it was a tumour. Surgeons who operated on Chloe for five hours found it was a non-cancerous growth between two layers of her skull.

The art student, from Barnstaple, North Devon, was told it could have got worse had Ms Gammon not spotted it.

She said: ‘One minute I was a carefree teenager, the next I was frightened I might have cancer.’

Ms Gammon said: ‘I’d never seen anything like it in over 25 years in the job.’
