Tech Digest: More from the world of gadgetry

Dishwasher duties

The latest appliance to get the connected treatment is Beko’s AutoDose Connected Dishwasher (pictured) — its genuinely useful smarts include giving you a nudge on your smartphone when the filter needs a scrub or the salt needs refilling. It also automatically reorders detergent when you’re running low and can take audible commands via Alexa, which means you can tell it to start programs and check things like time remaining.

AirPods take two

Apple’s ubiquitous in-ear buds have finally got the update fans have been waiting for, adding 50 per cent more talk time and the option to summon Siri with your voice, alongside an optional wireless charging case. Get them online now or in store next week.

Smart recycling

Want to get rid of your old smartphone sidekick? Following a successful trial in 2018, gadget recycling firm Gazelle (uk.gazelle.com) has now placed 18 automated kiosks in supermarkets and shopping centres across the UK. The kiosks will take your old or broken phones in exchange for cash, or safely recycle them should they prove battered and beyond repair. A Samsung S9 Plus, for example, will fetch up to £314, according to sample pricing.
