FRIENDS thought Sarah Buchanan’s husband was having an affair when they saw him with a slim woman in their village — before realising she had got fit and lost 10st 4lb.
Healthcare assistant Sarah, 33, had been told she had diabetes, was morbidly obese at 24st 11lb and may need gastric surgery.
‘I didn’t realise quite how bad I had got,’ she said. ‘The diagnosis frightened me so I had to do something.’ First she cut out pizza, crisps, sandwiches and chocolate.
‘I started having healthy soups and salads and jogging on the spot each day for ten minutes and gradually built it up,’ she said.
Fifteen months later she is 14st 7lb and a size 14 instead of 26.
She said: ‘We were waiting for my dad to pick us up and my friend spotted us and thought Dan had another woman by his side. Then she realised it was still me. It was funny and flattering really.’
Dan said: ‘I’m proud of her. People can’t believe how she’s changed.’
Sarah, of St Austell, Cornwall, was bullied at school for her size.
She added: ‘My son keeps hugging me, saying “I can get my arms around you now, mummy”.’
