LIVERPOOL ensured a full set of five English clubs into the last 16 of the Champions League in scintillating fashion as they thumped Spartak Moscow 7-0 at Anfield last night.
Philippe Coutinho led the way with a hat-trick and manager Jurgen Klopp’s so-called ‘Fab Four’ forwards all got among the goals.
Liverpool only needed to avoid defeat to ensure qualification alongside Manchester United, City, Chelsea and Tottenham, and it took just four minutes for Coutinho to calm any nerves by scoring a penalty.
Further goals from the Brazilian and Robert Firmino made it 3-0 inside 20 minutes before the Reds ran riot in the second half.
Sadio Mane netted either side of Coutinho’s third before Mohamed Salah crowned a famous night.
Manchester City’s 28-game unbeaten run — dating back to last season’s FA Cup semi-final — was ended as they lost 2-1 to Shaktar Donetsk in Ukraine, but they had already finished top of their group.
Spaniard Fernando Llorente scored his first goal for Spurs as the Group H winners cruised past Apoel Nicosia 3-0 at Wembley.
