A TOP girls’ school has banned Fitbits over concerns that students are counting calories and skipping lunch if they fail to meet their device’s walking targets.
The gadgets will be outlawed together with smartwatches at Stroud High School in Gloucestershire when the new term begins in September.
The 860-pupil academy is also stopping everyone but its oldest students from using mobile phones at school because it says the constant pressure to have fun is taking a toll on mental health.
Deputy headteacher Cindi Pride said: ‘There have been many reports about how excessive use of social media can have a negative impact on mental health.’
One parent said: ‘This is a good move, which addresses important issues.’
