Sam Smith promises fans he’s no Adele copycat

Licence to trill: Sam says 007 song was ‘unbelievably stressful’ PICTURE: GETTY

SAM SMITH is adamant he is not someone like Adele.

The singer is exasperated that fans insist he is morphing into his fellow British vocal powerhouse.

The pair’s similarities include both winning best song Oscars for a Bond tune, hiring the same publicity team, winning a critics’ choice gong at the Brits and undergoing dramatic weight loss transformations.

Asked about the comparisons, the Promises singer told The Official Big Top 40 on Capital FM: ‘Do you know what? Everyone can carry on doing that but I will tell you I am me and Adele is Adele.

‘I’ve met her before and we are two separate people. Human bodies.’

But he’s not huffy about the replication claims.

‘It’s an honour, because she’s a wonderful lady in every way,’ Sam added.

The 26-year-old also pointed out that singing a James Bond theme tune is no enviable task.

He accidentally bumbled into a media storm when he ‘messed up’ by claiming he was the first openly gay man to win an Oscar for Writing’s On The Wall for Spectre in 2016. And Sam says his 007 moment was ‘unbelievably stressful’. He said: ‘It’s very exciting when it happens. But after you release it, there’s not one person that’s ever released a Bond song that has got all positive feedback.

‘It’s so brutal, actually in terms of releasing music, you know, cos not everyone’s gonna be happy, because everyone’s got in their head what a Bond song is.

‘But, in terms of experiences, I’m so honoured to have done it and love singing it.’

Meanwhile, Adele, 30, showed she was still loving LA life when she took hubby Simon Konecki to Sir Elton’s John’s gig in Hollywood at the weekend.
