Police have released the shocking CCTV footage of the helpless man lying in the road in the path of rush-hour traffic.

They also issued a picture, taken by a passer-by, of the man suspected of pushing the victim after they ‘exchanged words’. The victim was walking along New Bridge Street, which runs from Blackfriars to Ludgate Circus in the City of London, at 8am on July 23 when he was pushed.

He told police he had ‘brushed shoulders and exchanged words’ with another pedestrian before being shoved into the road.

The victim suffered grazes to his hands and arms. Members of the public followed the suspect and one took a photograph of him. A City of London Police spokesman said: ‘We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or who may know the man in the photograph.

‘The quick-thinking actions of the taxi driver undoubtedly prevented this incident having much more severe consequences for the victim. However, he is still naturally shocked and horrified by what happened. If you have any information that can assist please call us on 0207 601 2999.’
