Racist Chelsea fans grope women in train rampage

A GROUP of Chelsea fans are being hunted by police after rampaging through a train, chanting racist songs and groping women passengers.

The gang of supporters made lewd and sexist comments during the spree of abuse just before Christmas, which was witnessed by frightened children.

Details of their behaviour on a Great Western service were made public by police yesterday as part of efforts to track down the culprits. ‘On Saturday December 22 a group of around 20 football fans boarded the train and began to chant racially abusive comments in front of families and children,’ British Transport Police said.

‘They were also seen to sexually assault a number of women.’ The group — identified as Chelsea fans by their club shirts — travelled to Worcester on the 6.22pm from London Paddington after their team lost at home to Leicester City.

Police want to hear from assaulted women yet to make a complaint.

It is not the first time Chelsea fans have been accused of racism.

During a Europa League match against Hungarian side MOL Vidi last month, a minority sang anti-Semitic chants about fans of rivals Tottenham, who have a large Jewish fanbase. Days earlier, Manchester City star Raheem Sterling was allegedly racially abused from the stands while playing against Chelsea. And in 2017, four Chelsea fans were convicted of racist violence against a black commuter before a match in Paris in 2015.

Both Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and Tottenham counterpart Mauricio Pochettino urged supporters to behave ahead of last night’s Carabao Cup match between the sides at Wembley.
