PRINCE CHARLES is especially ‘hurt’ by Harry and Meghan’s decision to quit as senior royals because he has been secretly bankrolling them with extra funds, an insider has claimed.
The Prince of Wales was so keen to keep his son and wife happy in the UK that he reportedly used private income from his £1.2billion Duchy of Cornwall estate to finance their lifestyle and furnish their Windsor home, Frogmore House.
A source told the Evening Standard: ‘There is a great deal of hurt given that the Prince of Wales has gone out of his way to help his son who he loves dearly and embrace his daughter-in-law into the family.’
The source added that Charles has been topping up his annual £2.3million payment to Harry with ‘hundreds of thousands’ extra, and bankrolled much of their wedding in May 2018, which is estimated to have cost up to £30million.
They said: ‘The figures quoted on the Sussex website are wrong. He has paid out considerable sums from his private investments and money too. These are not small sums.
‘It should not be a surprise that he is upset by all this given the truth about how he has supported his son.’
