POLICE forced a protester to wear a mask yesterday as trouble flared at anti-lockdown demonstrations in Melbourne, Australia.
The handcuffed woman was among around 250 people gathered in the capital of Victoria to protest against rules prohibiting residents from leaving home for non-essential reasons.
Scuffles broke out, with some demonstrators throwing fruit and one kicking a police horse. Officers arrested 74 and handed out 176 infringement notices.
‘It was extremely disappointing to see people not just protesting, but putting the lives of other Victorians at risk,’ police said.
It came as the state’s death toll rose to 723 yesterday, taking the national total to 810.
