Players desperate to respond after ‘unfair’ criticism, says Vardy

JAMIE VARDY claimed his Leicester side were ‘fired-up’ by the criticism they received after the sacking of ex-boss Claudio Ranieri as they saw off Liverpool.

Some senior players, including Vardy (pictured, heading in his second goal), have come under fire, with claims they plotted the Italian’s downfall.

But the England striker said after netting twice last night: ‘We’ve come under a lot of unfair stick with the stuff that’s been in the press lately and the lads wanted to put a reaction in. The performance showed we wanted to do that but it’s up to us to consistently do that.

‘I’ve been frustrated with the amount of goals I’ve got this season but hopefully those two goals will push me on.’

Danny Drinkwater, who also scored, said: ‘It’s something to build on, the next game is even more important now.’
