Play centre thinks out of the box

Child’s play: Groceries being repackaged to go out to the vulnerable at children’s activity centre The Play Factory PICTURE: GETTY

A CHILDREN’S activity centre has been transformed into a non-profit emergency food centre.

The Play Factory, in Skelton, Cleveland, is using leaflets and social media to offer help to vulnerable people and those who are self-isolating. Through the service, customers can order boxes of groceries — which would in normal circumstances be used at the play centre — to be either collected or delivered locally.

The food and other household items are sold at cost with a minimum mark-up to cover staff wages.
