Perfect match: Man donates kidney to fiancee for life-saving op

Together: Aldo discovered his kidney was the perfect replacement for Geraldine's

A WOMAN discovered her fiance really was a perfect match — after he gave her a life saving kidney.

Trainee nurse Geraldine Chingosho, 22, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease soon after she started dating Aldo Cataldi, 27, and told him to leave her.

But loving Aldo stuck by her and when relatives turned out to be incompatible donors, he found out he was a perfect match — just hours after proposing to Geraldine, on her birthday.

Recovery: Geraldine after her operation

The operation was a complete success and the recovering pair are now preparing to get married.

Geraldine, from Leicester, said: ‘I never would have ever asked or expected my fiance to give me his kidney. I was completely stunned to find that we were even a match.

‘Aldo has saved my life and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.’

Aldo, also a nurse, added: ‘Donating my kidney to my fiance was such a normal thing for me to do — I didn’t really think about it.

‘The most important thing is she’ll feel better and have a better quality of life. I didn’t do it for the spotlight or anything — but because it was the right thing to do.’

The pair, who met in January 2017, plan to marry in August.
