LEADING Democrat Nancy Pelosi stole Donald Trump’s thunder during his State of the Union address with mocking applause that went viral.

As the US president called on Washington to cast aside ‘revenge, resistance and retribution’, the House Speaker made the sarcastic gesture and the image, named the ‘Pelosi clap’, became a meme on social media.

Ms Pelosi, who sat behind Mr Trump for the 82-minute speech, and other Democrat women wore white in tribute to suffragettes 100 years after Congress agreed to give US women the right to vote. The dress code also highlighted how many more female Democrats there are compared with Republicans.

Mr Trump appealed for cooperation between parties, but also renewed his call for a border wall with Mexico. He announced he will hold a second nuclear summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un later this month and derided the ‘ridiculous’ inquiries he faces. ‘If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation,’ he said.

A BOY named Trump was photographed sleeping during the president’s speech on Tuesday. Joshua Trump (pictured), 11, from Delaware was first lady Melania’s guest due to bullying over his surname, and won over Twitter users as he dozed off in the House of Representatives in Washington. ‘Joshua Trump is a Trump I can get behind,’ one user tweeted. Another joked: ‘He’s likely the smartest Trump.
