MOST of us are trying to live a life less wasteful. But did you know that a single disposable sanitary towel or tampon takes up to 800 years to degrade? And that one pack of sanitary pads contains the same amount of plastic as four carrier bags?
It’s a problem new brand Wear ’em Out wants to solve with the invention of reusable ‘yet classy, UK-manufactured pads for the eco-curious woman’.
The pads have double-binding edges to protect against leaks and using them couldn’t be easier. Simply pop them in your undies, then clean after use in a 40C wash. Founder Lauren Derrett — a 46-year-old mum of four and stepmum to two more — came up with the idea after struggling to find eco-friendly pads that didn’t sacrifice comfort, absorption or design.
‘It’s time to pave the way, set new trends, cross new boundaries and contribute to our shared home, our innocent and affected planet,’ says Lauren. Wear ’em Out has already seen demand from Australia, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. And best of all us that over four years, Wear ’Em Out costs on average 40 per cent less than standard pads. Everyone’s a winner.
