TENNIS-MAD Commons speaker John Bercow led the cheers as his sporting hero sealed a semi-final place at Wimbledon yesterday.
Wearing a blue Roger Federer T-shirt, Mr Bercow was seen getting animated as he watched the Swiss tennis legend fight back from a set down to beat Kei Nishikori 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
It was the second time this week he had been to the All England Club to watch Federer. On Saturday, he was in the crowd and heard calling out: ‘We all love you Roger, all of us,’ to the star.
Mr Bercow is a well-known tennis fan and in his youth was ranked as Britain’s No.1 junior before bronchial asthma prevented him from becoming a professional.
In 2014, he published a book on the 20 greatest male players of all time — and placed Federer, 37, in the No.1 spot.
