CAPTAIN Sir Tom Moore has notched up a new accolade — the oldest cover star for British GQ magazine.
The 100-year-old said: ‘Well, that’s something special, isn’t it?’ He then quipped: ‘And maybe next year I’ll be the oldest again!’
Sir Tom, who raised £32million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden in the first lockdown, said: ‘Negative thoughts don’t seem to be part of me. I always think of the beneficial things.’ The ex-Army officer was knighted in July for his efforts — confessing beforehand that he hoped the Queen would be ‘gentle with the sword’. He will now also receive the title of GQ’s Inspiration Of The Year.
Describing Sir Tom as the ‘absolute embodiment’ of the award, editor Dylan Jones said: ‘If this year shows us anything, it’s that hope can come from the places you wouldn’t expect.’
