PRINCE CHARLES is surrounded by his family in a delightful photograph to celebrate his 70th birthday today.
His grandson Prince George sits giggling on his knee while his wife Camilla is beside him, her arm around Princess Charlotte.
Standing behind them are William and Kate, holding Prince Louis, alongside Harry and a laughing Meghan.
The picture — depicting three future kings — is a rare image of the Prince of Wales with all of his grandchildren, whose number will increase to four when Meghan gives birth next year.
In a recent BBC documentary, William spoke of how he would like his father to spend more time with his grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis.
‘I think he does have time for it, but I would like him to have more time with the children,’ he said.
‘I think, he’s reached his 70th year, it’s a perfect time to consolidate a little bit because as most families would do, you are worried about having them around and making sure their health’s OK. He’s the fittest man I know but equally I want him to be fit until he’s 95, you know, going on.’
Charles and Camilla will spend part of his birthday with a group of inspirational people who also turn 70 this year. Tonight, the Queen will throw a private birthday party at Buckingham Palace for her eldest son and heir.
The guest list is likely to include Charles’s friends from his public and private life, members of the royal family and others who have played an important role in the prince’s career.
The photo was one of several taken in the garden of Clarence House in September by photographer Chris Jackson.
‘I was delighted to have been asked to take these portraits. It was particularly special to capture such an informal and relaxed family portrait over a fun afternoon in the gardens of Clarence House,’ he said.
