MORE than nine in ten rail passengers — 91 per cent — are complying with face covering rules in London, patrols by staff and transport police indicate.
This rises to 98.4 per cent when people were spoken to, while 0.2 per cent who refused to comply were removed from a train or issued with a fine, according to an eight-week trial that could be rolled out across the rail network.
‘Overwhelmingly people will do their part to protect others,’ said Rail Delivery Group’s Robert Nisbet. Meanwhile, government figures find 98 per cent of people are wearing face coverings when outside their homes.
Fines for not wearing a mask range from £200 to £6,400 with police handing out 141 so far.
