Obamas’ memoirs sell for ‘record £49m’

BARACK and Michelle Obama have signed a publishing deal believed to be worth a record £49million.

The former president and first lady (pictured) have agreed a tie-up with Penguin Random House for two books. The details were not disclosed but the Financial Times said bidding reached more than $60m, eclipsing the $15million (£12.2m) former president Bill Clinton got for his memoir in 2001.

The Obamas plan to donate a ‘significant portion’ of it to charity. Mr Obama has written Dreams From My Father and The Audacity Of Hope, both bestsellers.
