A WOMAN was left hopping mad after she found a live frog in her supermarket lettuce.
Shevaughan Tolputt picked up a 39p British round lettuce, among other goods, from an Aldi store.
But she did a double take after spotting the amphibian happily hopping about in the bag.
Shevaughan shared pictures of the frog on Twitter and tweeted Aldi, informing them that the lettuce, and the frog, had come from their store in Camborne, Cornwall.
Shevaughan, a marketer for Cornwall Council, said: ‘I saw something move and there was a little pair of eyes looking back at me. He was really little.
‘I shouted to my husband and he put him in a tupperware container.
‘He was fine. He didn’t seem unwell. Hopefully having him in the fridge for a few hours didn’t harm him.’
After capturing evidence of their find on film, the couple released the frog into the wild in a nearby field near a stream.
Shevaughan, 37, added: ‘I’m glad that I found him and I know he’s somewhere safe. I spoke to the Aldi customer service team and they are looking into it.
‘As it’s an open product they do not know at what point it got into the production line. They have said they will monitor the situation.’
She said her husband was ‘equally surprised as her’ and her family and friends have found it ‘hilarious’.
Aldi said: ‘We’re sorry to hear of Ms Tolputt’s experience and have offered her a full refund.
‘This type of incident, while incredibly rare, can naturally occur with fresh produce.’
