Dubai will soon be home to the world’s largest ferris wheel, looming over the city at a whopping 250m tall (820ft).
The Ain Dubai has become the latest glittering tourist attraction in the Emirati city, and it’s set to open its doors to thrill-seekers in 2021.
And this twilight photo of the giant wheel, framing a pastel pink and orange sunset, offers a promise of what is to come, as passengers can expect stunning, 360-degree views of Dubai’s famous skyline.
The giant wheel measures almost double the height of its UK counterpart, the London Eye, which stands at 135metres, or 440feet, tall.
And, although delicate-looking, Ain Dubai also weighs 25 per cent more than the Eiffel Tower — 9,000tonnes, compared with the French attraction’s 7,300tonnes.
Ain Dubai — or the Dubai Eye — features 48 capsules with a total seating capacity for 1,400 people — London Eye’s can hold 800.
Six additional VIP capsules will have a private bar and fine dining for up to 40.
The Ain Dubai is on Dubai’s new Bluewaters Island, accessible from the popular, bustling Dubai Marina.
United Arab Emirates holding company Meraas, responsible for the construction of Ain Dubai, said: ‘Standing at over 250metres high, the structure is over 200 per cent taller than the first-ever Ferris wheel.
‘This demonstrates Meraas’s continuous desire to push the boundaries of what’s possible with modern engineering and construction.’
