CONSCIOUS coupling was under way in this year’s Love Island villa as contestants got a first look at each other last night.

The ten singletons sized each other up in Cape Town, South Africa, as the fight for the £50,000 prize started on ITV2.

‘Double trouble’: Twins Jess and Eve Gale make surprise entrance to villa

The girls — Shaughna Phillips, Sophie Piper, Leanne Amaning, Paige Turley and Siannise Fudge — were first to arrive at the resort.

Shaughna said she had signed up to find ‘the opposite of what I attract — cocky know-it-alls’, while singer Paige is looking for someone ‘tall dark and handsome’. Customer service adviser Leanne admitted she has never been in love, then added: ‘I’m here to cure that.’

When the boys — Mike Boateng, Nas Majeed, Connor Durman, Ollie Williams, and Callum Jones — turned up they were given the chance to pick who they wanted to couple up with.

But builder Nas later received a text that sent shockwaves through the villa. ‘It’s time to get the party started as two very important guests are about to arrive,’ it read. In walked twins Jess and Eve Gale, and police officer Mike said: ‘Twice is definitely nice, know what I mean?’

Scaffolder Callum dubbed the pair ‘double trouble’, and Shaughna, rattled, said: ‘I was trying not to look bothered.’

The show saw the debut of new host Laura Whitmore, who has replaced Caroline Flack. She quit after being accused of assaulting lover Lewis Burton. She denies the charge and will go on trial in March.
