UK ATHLETICS said yesterday Neil Black is to stand down as its performance director.
Black (pictured) revealed on Monday he would review his position in the wake of coach Alberto Salazar’s four-year ban and a world championships in which Great Britain won five medals, their worst return since 2005.
Black will still oversee Sir Mo Farah’s involvement in the Chicago Marathon as planned this weekend and will leave his role at the end of the month, leaving UK Athletics to find a replacement with nine months until the Olympics.
In 2015, when the United States Anti-Doping Agency began investigating potential doping violations, Salazar was coaching Farah. UK Athletics reviewed Salazar’s link with Farah and concluded there was ‘no reason to be concerned’. Black has also described Salazar as a genius in the past.
