A MUSLIM man was killed and dozens of shops and mosques were destroyed in an apparent retaliation for the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka that killed more than 250 people.
Cabinet minister Rauff Hakeem, who is also a leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, said the man was hacked to death in the north west of the country when majority ethnic Sinhalese mobs attacked Muslim-owned shops and homes on Monday.
Police imposed a curfew in the area. More communal violence was reported in western Sri Lanka.
Muslims have also been targets of hate on social media since the April 21 suicide attacks on three churches and three hotels, which Daesh claimed responsibility for.
