A LABOUR MP says she has received five death threats and 1,000 abusive messages since the prime minister dismissed her concerns about his language on Brexit as ‘humbug’.
Paula Sherriff (pictured) urged Boris Johnson not to use words such as ‘betrayal’ and ‘surrender’ during a fiery Commons debate last week, saying restraint was needed after her colleague Jo Cox was murdered in 2016.
Insults sent to the mother-of-three since have described her as a ‘Remainer traitor’. One poster wrote: ‘I can not wait to see you hanging from a lamppost.’ Another said: ‘You will need to lose weight if those threats do come to fruition, you will need to be a bit light-footed.’
BBC journalist Victoria Derbyshire posted the messages on her Twitter account.
On Sunday, Mr Johnson told the Dewsbury MP he was ‘sorry for the misunderstanding’.
