A MOTORCYCLIST died after crashing into a wall while attempting an emergency stop at a driving test centre, an inquest heard.

Witnesses said Christopher Evans looked to have speeded up instead of braking as he took a test for the Mod 1 bike certificate last month.

Married Mr Evans, 39, from Chester, a shift manager at a cranes operation firm, was declared dead at the scene in St Helens, Merseyside.

A statement read by coroner’s officer Jacqueline Horner read: ‘He was requested to perform an emergency stop. Witnesses state it appeared he had accelerated instead of braking. He collided with the metal fencing around the perimeter of the test centre, before colliding with a brick wall.’

Coroner Graham Jackson adjourned the inquest.
