Minister ‘wanted quick OK for porn baron’s £1bn flats’

HOUSING secretary Robert Jenrick ‘insisted’ on a quick approval for a £1billion property development to save a Tory donor up to £50million.

Details emerged last night after Labour tabled an unopposed motion to release information relating to his approval for a housing scheme at the Westferry Printworks in east London.

The bid was submitted by Richard Desmond, former Daily Express owner and publisher of Asian Babes and Big Ones, who gave the Conservatives £12,000 after the project was approved. An email between officials said Mr Jenrick was ‘insistent’ a decision was issued as ‘the viability of the scheme is impacted by a change in the London CIL (community infrastructure levy) regime’.

Mr Jenrick overruled Tower Hamlets council and the planning inspector to approve the scheme on January 14.

He later withdrew his decision, conceding it could be seen as ‘unlawful’.

He insists he has done nothing wrong and said Labour MPs were making ‘wild accusations’.
