ALDI is launching a range of mini kitchen appliances to help those living in ‘rabbit hutch’ city homes.
The discount supermarket’s Compact Living range, which includes a compact food processor, table-top fridge and dishwasher, are half the size of standard appliances and aimed at modern, urban professionals with little space.
They have been inspired by Royal Institute of British Architects research that shows new-build homes in Britain are on average 10sq metres smaller than in 2003. However, what it calls ‘rabbit hutch’ homes are not confined to London. In fact, the average three-bed property in the capital is 25sq metres larger than the equivalent home in Yorkshire.
Aldi’s range features a mini oven a third of the height of a standard model and a deep fat fryer with half the capacity of the ordinary size.
Managing director for corporate buying Tony Baines said: ‘We appreciate that homeowners and renters are pushed for space and not everyone can accommodate full-sized kitchen items in the modern world.
‘Our Compact Living range responds to these changing consumer needs, offering customers lacking in space a range of products which are great value and don’t compromise on style.’
The range will be available in stores from tomorrow.
