THERE were echoes of The Handmaid’s Tale in the striking hat worn by the Duchess of Sussex yesterday for her Royal Ascot debut.
The Philip Treacy creation reminded fellow racegoers of the bonnet worn by ‘handmaids’ in the hit TV drama starring Elisabeth Moss. Meghan, 36, wore it with a white shirt dress from Givenchy, the house that designed her wedding gown.
And she found she had a secret admirer in Frankie Dettori as he stole a kiss — prompting laughter from the duchess and her husband Prince Harry, 33, who playfully wagged a finger at the legendary jockey.
Dettori, 47, kissed Meghan’s hand as she presented him with his trophy for riding the favourite, Without Parole, to victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes.
Afterwards the father of five said his children would be ‘more impressed’ about his prize from Meghan than winning the race.
