Mayor offers Viagra for baby boom boost

A MAYOR is offering free Viagra to couples living in his small town in a bid to boost its birth rate.

Jean Debouzy, mayor of Montereau, a town in Loiret, northern France, announced he was ‘favourable to the distribution of the little blue pills’.

He said he was taking action because two schools were threatened with closure due to the falling number of children.

However, he added he still needs the council’s approval to obtain the drugs. A prescription is also normally required to get Viagra in France.

The country has long pursued a policy of encouraging a higher birth rate — which fell for the fourth year in a row last year — by providing large subsidies and tax breaks for families with children.
