AFTER a long day at work, Steve Smith was looking forward to enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures — beans on toast.
But his dinner plan was ruined when he opened a Heinz can to find just one bean inside.
The Bristol city councillor, who had bought the multipack tin online from Tesco, was hoping to cook up a quick meal after returning home from a residents’ meeting.
But he prised the can open to discover the solitary bean floating alone in a sea of sauce.
‘I thought it was funny… but annoying,’ he said. ‘It was the last tin we had in the cupboard. I had to have scrambled egg instead.’
The 41-year-old, who is a Tory councillor for the city’s Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze ward, posted a video of the find on Heinz’s Twitter page. His post read: ‘Hi @HeinzUK. I enjoy “bean juice” as much as the next person, but when I opened a can I was hoping for more than one bean.’
A Heinz spokesman said he was ‘so sorry’ to hear of Mr Smith’s experience.
‘Our beans are meticulously weighed, with approximately 465 in each Heinz Beanz 415g standard can. We are in touch with Steve over this isolated incident,’ he added.
