DONALD TRUMP jokingly told photographers to capture him and Kim Jong-un looking ‘nice and handsome and thin and perfect’, before the pair sat down for a lavish nine-dish lunch.
But it seemed his quip was not translated to Mr Kim — or he just didn’t get the joke — as footage showed him standing by his chair with a blank expression.
The White House revealed the three-course menu featured Asian specialities such as stuffed cucumber and soy braised cod, as well as American-style beef short rib and prawn cocktail. Desserts included a chocolate tart, Tropézienne cake and ‘Häagen-Dazs vanilla iced cream’.
During a 2016 election rally Mr Trump said he would be willing to meet Mr Kim but wouldn’t serve him a state dinner ‘like we do for China’. ‘We should be eating a hamburger on a conference table,’ he said.
