WHAT are you up to tonight? Staying in? Good for you, me too — but it could be a more interesting evening than planned as the folks behind ‘women-first’ dating app Bumble are launching an Instagram Live weekly dating show, hosted by presenter Clara Amfo together with a celeb guest — this week it’s Maya Jama and next Love Island’s Ovie Soko.
Alongside sex and relationship experts, the pair will discuss the thorny issue of how to find love in the time of coronavirus and help compile the ultimate ‘virtual dating guide’. (Sigh. This still all feels slightly surreal, doesn’t it?) And Bumble should have some ideas, as it has asked the opinions of some of its 90million worldwide users.
Video dating is the way forward. Bumble saw a 45 per cent increase in video calls during the week ending March 27 compared with two weeks before (and the average call length was an impressive 21 minutes), which it says shows ‘users are seeking other forms of interaction while in lockdown’. The show is at 7pm and users can submit questions on the Bumble app or via Clara’s Instagram @claraamfo.
‘The lockdown doesn’t mean we don’t want to connect with new people,’ says Amfo. ‘Friendships, flirtations and full-on romances can still happen safely online.’
Beats spending the evening raiding the biscuit tin, that’s for sure.
