A GIANT hot air balloon in the shape of artist Vincent van Gogh’s head has had eyes turning skywards as it floated over a city.
The image from his 1887 painting Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat has been turned into a 27m-tall balloon.
Printed from a high-resolution picture of the oil painting, the balloon by Dutch company Bavaria BV reportedly cost some £220,000 to make.
The work of art, complete with two ears — the artist had cut one off — took to the skies over Melbourne at 7am for 50 minutes today.
It is one of 20 that will soar over vineyards, rivers and ridges during the 2019 King Valley Balloon Festival next month and was flown to promote the event.
