Lonely heartbreak of widower who has no-one to chat with…

So sad: Tony Williams with poster he has put up looking for friends PICTURES: SWNS

A WIDOWER has put up a poster in his window asking for friends to help him lift the ‘unbearable torture’ of loneliness after the death of his wife.

Tony Williams, 75, often goes days without speaking to anyone after his wife and ‘soulmate’ Jo, also 75, passed away in May.

The retired physicist has no children and says he sits at home willing the phone to ring -‘but it never does’. He spent £120 on two adverts in his local newspaper looking for friends but didn’t get any replies.

Then he had business cards made, which he would hand out when he went shopping or out for a walk in Alton, Hampshire. And still no-one called.

Now, in a final attempt to find a friend, he has put a poster up in his window. Mr Williams said: ‘It’s my last resort. I have tried everything to make friends but it feels like nobody wants to talk to me. Not very many people pass my house but I was hoping it would spread around the community, and someone might reach out.

‘Jo was my best friend and we had a lovely life. But now I’m all by myself. My wonderful wife has died and I have nobody.

‘All I want is for somebody to see the sign and phone me up. I just want a nice conversation so I’m not sat in silence all day long.’
