LIAM FOX has gone to the police after becoming the latest MP to be sent a death threat.

The international trade secretary received the one-line email, which threatened to kill a named member of his family, at his office in the Commons on Wednesday.

It said: ‘Stop your f***ing s*** or we’ll kill *********.’

A spokesman for Dr Fox, who is in charge of negotiating post-Brexit trade deals, described the increased abuse aimed at MPs as ‘sinister and deplorable’. The threat was revealed as a parliamentary watchdog warned that such abuse is on the brink of driving people out of politics.

Lord Bew, of the committee on standards in public life, said yesterday: ‘We have to respond to it. We cannot afford to lose people of quality.’ Last week prime minister Theresa May asked the committee to investigate after MPs spoke of the abuse they had received. Labour’s Diane Abbott said she had repeatedly been called a ‘n*****’ and a ‘black bitch’, while Tory Sheryll Murray got messages including ‘burn the witch’.

Troll Peter Nunn, 33, was jailed for 18 weeks in 2014 for retweeting threats to rape Labour’s Stella Creasey. And Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 24, was jailed for two years in December for an anti-semitic hate campaign against Labour’s Luciana Berger.
