POLICE have stopped a church from holding a baptism in breach of lockdown regulations.
About 30 evangelical worshippers had gathered at The Angel Church in north London yesterday before Met Police officers halted the service.
Pastor Regan King, 28, said he had intended to break restrictions because he ‘served a greater good’, with some churchgoers ‘homeless or on the verge of being very isolated’. He added: ‘This is an essential service.’
The force let 15 people remain in the church in Clerkenwell, with 15 outside. A spokesman said: ‘After a discussion, the pastor agreed to hold a brief socially distanced outdoor gathering.’
